By Randy Thoms Dec 8, 2022 | 8:23 AM

Northern Ontario’s rinks have failed to advance to the championship pools at the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The Tracey Larocque rink, featuring Lisa Penner from Fort Frances, concluded round-robin play with a 6-4 win over Newfoundland and Labrador and a 6-5 loss to Northwest Territories.

That left them with a 2-4 record and tied for 5th in their pool with Northwest Territories.

That puts them in the seeding poll, which starts this morning with a game against Manitoba.

On the men’s side, Al Hackner’s rink is also in the seeding pool after an 8-3 win over Nunavut and an 8-7 loss to BC.

They finish with a 2-4 record and tied for 5th with Yukon in their pool.

Hackner takes on Northwest Territories this morning to open seeding pool play.

In high school court sports, the Rainy River Owls dropped a pair of games in boy’s basketball to the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints.

The seniors lost 66-13, while the juniors fell 80-27.

The Owls’ senior girls volleyball beat the Saints in four games.
