Thousands of students are going to receive $10 vouchers to farmer’s markets as part of the Nova Scotia Loyal program.

The province says they will be distributed to those in pre-primary to Grade 12 this month, with post-secondary students to receive theirs in the fall. The Immigration Services Association of Nova Scotia will distribute vouchers to newcomers throughout the year.

Home-schooled students will also be included.

Nova Scotia Loyal is program introduced in 2024 that makes it easier to identify products made here in our province with a sticker or tag.

“Our farmers’ markets have something for everyone, and this program makes it easier for more Nova Scotians to experience them first-hand,” said Colton LeBlanc, Minister of Growth and Development. “By putting these vouchers directly into the hands of students and newcomers, we’re helping people discover the incredible products made right here at home while supporting local producers and strengthening our communities.”

Last year, 29 per cent of vouchers were used, resulting in $787,730 in purchases from local producers.

There will be 215,500 vouchers handed out. They are valid until December 31.
