Mahone Bay residents have elected Kevin Boon and Catherine McCaron as the town’s newest councillors following a special byelection held over the long weekend.

Boon led the race with 210 votes, while McCaron secured just under 200 — enough to finish ahead of the three other candidates who sought to fill the two vacant seats.

The byelection was prompted by two recent resignations on town council.

  • Councillor Rebecca Twanow resigned earlier in January.
  • Deputy Mayor Colin Kingsmill stepped down late last year for personal reasons, with his resignation becoming official on November 27.

Following Kingsmill’s departure, Councillor Joseph Feeny was appointed Deputy Mayor.

Before Boon and McCaron can take their seats at council, they must be formally sworn in. No swearing‑in date has been set yet, but the town is expected to announce one soon.

Once sworn in, both will serve the remainder of the current council term.
