It’s a game that will be remembered for more than the final score.
The Yarmouth Mariners edged the Valley Wildcats 5-3 Monday afternoon at the Fishtank.
But a line-brawl in the last 10 seconds of the third resulted in several ejections on both sides.
There were nearly 400 minutes in penalties handed out.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says it’s unfortunate.
“There will be some suspensions, there was 10 seconds left and the game is over. I thought there was some cheap stuff there, but I’m not going to comment on it,” said Barron postgame.
Yarmouth were officially eliminated from playoff contention with Amherst’s win over Truro earlier in the day.
It’s the second straight year the Mariners will miss the playoffs.
Barron says they want to get back to .500.
“And especially at our home games, we want to make sure people get their dollar value. That YM on our jersey, there’s a lot of pride in it. This wasn’t the season that we wanted, but we want to finish out on a high note.”
He says the young players will also be competing to secure their spot for next season.
