The Halifax Regional Municipality is choosing an official tartan and the public is being invited to help.
Three proposed designs are available at this website. The public can review the designs, provide feedback and choose their favourite.
That input will inform a recommendation to regional council later this year.
At that point, a final design will be selected and submitted to the Scottish Tartans Authority, the global authority for tartan registration managing the Scottish Register of Tartans.
Tartan is a power symbol of heritage and identity.
According to the 2021 census, nearly 200,000 residents of the HRM identify as having Scottish or Irish heritage.
Once selected and registered, the official HRM tartan will be used in branding, ceremonial events and other municipal applications to celebrate and represent the Scottish identity of the city.
