Changes to Codiac Regional RCMP investigative services

By Tara Clow Jan 22, 2026 | 9:42 AM

A new structure for investigative services within the Codiac RCMP.

This comes after an independent external review was launched in 2024.

It looked at the organizational structure and policing effectiveness, studying everything from calls for service and population growth to investigative workloads and solvability rates.

Codiac RCMP says one of the most significant findings was that solutions for crimes such as sexual assaults and domestic violence were lower than expected.

This was because investigators were looking after such a large mix of files that were very different each day.

Solvability for property crime was also low because of the high number of calls, and it was challenging for officers to do effective follow-ups.

“With this rebranding, we have four distinct types of units where people can actually start building specialties in a specific field, whether it be property crime or sexual assault investigations,” Superintendent Benoit Jolette stated.

Codiac leadership decided to reorganize investigative services into four specialized units, effective January 5.

They are the General Investigations Section, Vulnerable Persons Unit, Crime Reduction Unit – Priority Offender and Crime Reduction Unit – Property Crime.

The review also found that communication between police and the public in the Codiac region was lacking.

Codiac RCMP will also soon launch its own Facebook page, and a new Media Relations Officer has also been announced for the Codiac region.
