An annual tradition that has been celebrated in Riverview since 1975.
Riverview’s winter carnival runs from January 30 to February 8.
“There’s something for everyone, all ages and interests. Throughout those 10 days, you can expect everything from workshops to guided snowshoeing and a pancake breakfast. We have our frozen open skateboarding competition, and there are lots of opportunities to try something new. Whether that’s pickleball, Ringette, Aquafit, or sound healing yoga, something for everyone,” Town Spokesperson Ashly Barron told our newsroom.
The event kicks off with Ignite, and that includes the famous winter fireworks at Winter Wonderland Park.
“There’s outdoor skating, free hot chocolate. So that continues to draw more and more people. The event has built-in flexibility as well for many events. If some of the snow melts, snowshoeing turns into winter hiking, and some of the events are held indoors, too. The genesis of the Winter Carnival is to get people out, whether it is outside or just out of the house, connecting to the community at a time when typically it’s hardest to do,” Barron added.
The event is open to all residents, whether they live in Riverview or not.
“We welcome everyone to come check out the events throughout winter carnival. So whether that’s crossing the bridges or, coming from outside of town, all are welcome to take part and maybe discover something new here in Riverview,” Barron encouraged.
More details on all of the activities can be found on the Riverview Winter Carnival website.
