A Cormier Village, N.B., man is looking at early retirement thanks to a big lottery win.
Pierre Landry had the lucky numbers on a Lotto Max ticket for the Dec. 30 draw, and claimed one of 51 Maxmillions prizes.
Landry told Atlantic Lottery he couldn’t believe it when he checked his ticket on New Year’s Eve.
“I was sitting on my chair for five minutes while my wife was sleeping and finally, I had to wake her,” he told ALC. “I had the ticket in my hand and was just shaking it and she was saying ‘What? What?’”
Landry had been working in a local fish smokehouse but officially retired thanks to the big win.
“I was working, but not now,” he said. “I had another year to go if I didn’t win, but this feels terrific.”
Landry said he and his wife will take their time figuring out what to do with the prize money, but added they’re in the market for a new RV and are looking forward to taking a trip across Canada to explore new places.
Landry picked up his big cheque at ALC head office in Moncton last week, with more than 20 family members along for the occasion.
“I’m so glad they were all here,” he said. “It feels good, and they all enjoyed it too.”
Landry purchased his winning ticket at Carrefour à Cap-Pelé in Cap-Pelé.
