Renewed calls to complete Hwy 101 in Digby County

By Kevin Northup Jan 8, 2026 | 2:57 PM

It’s time to finish Highway 101.

That’s the message from the Warden of the Municipality of Digby, Linda Gregory.

She says the 25 kilometre stretch between Marshalltown and Weymouth features speeding drivers (maximum is 90km/h).

The highway runs through a residential area, and is not currently on the province’s five-year highway improvement plan.

Gregory says it’s a safety issue.

“I just don’t think it’s fair that we’ve been waiting for close to 30 years for completion of this highway. We have kids that wait here on this road for the busses, I’ve had people tell me they’re afraid to cross the road and get their mail,” said Gregory.

Gregory and Digby council are trying to revive a task force on the issue, made up of local municipal units.

She says they’re hoping to work with the province to get back on the plan.

“Residents are frustrated, even going out of their driveways is like taking their life into their own hands,” added Gregory.

Gregory says the province is interested in the Task Force, and MLA Jill Balser and federal MP Chris d’Entremont have committed to listening.
