What’s open and closed on New Year’s Eve and January 1

By Tara Clow Dec 31, 2025 | 8:14 AM

It’s New Year’s Eve day, and some businesses may be planning to close earlier than usual.

It’s something to keep in mind if you have any shopping to do.

Many stores will remain closed on January 1, including all malls, big-box stores and most grocery stores.

NB Liquor and Cannabis NB stores will be closed, but agency liquor outlets may be open.

Some pharmacies will be open, although their hours may vary.

Banks, post offices and all government offices will also be closed, and no mail will be delivered.

If you are unsure if something is open, it is best to call ahead.

If you need to get around on New Year’s Eve, Codiac Transpo will have limited routes running.

Special free service will run from 6 pm until 2:40 am on the following routes:

  • 16 Hennessey
  • 50 Red Line
  • 51 Green Line
  • 60 Bessborough
  • 62 Hildegard
  • 64 Hospitals
  • 81 Riverview
  • 93 Champlain
  • 94 Centrale
  • 95 Amirault
