The City of Saint John is reminding residents to follow overnight parking rules during winter storms.
The City said on‑street parking is permitted during the winter months unless a temporary ban is declared or restrictions are posted under the Motor Vehicle Act.
There are two types of overnight bans. A North, East and West ban is declared when snow clearing is required in those areas.
A separate South‑Central Peninsula ban is declared when clearing is needed in that part of the city.
Bans in the South‑Central Peninsula are typically declared the day after a snow event, according to the City.
In the North, East and West, bans are usually declared two days after a storm to allow crews to push snow back to the curb more effectively.
Residents will be notified whenever a ban is in effect. Updates are posted by 3:45 p.m. through the City’s website, local media, and its official Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Residents can also sign up for email and text alerts to receive direct notifications.
The City stated that residents must secure off-street parking during bans. In the South-Central Peninsula, three designated lots will be available for overnight parking only when a ban is in effect.
Officials said the measures are in place to ensure safe and efficient snow removal and to keep streets clear and accessible throughout the winter.
