Fundng to protect Nova Scotia’s first Acadian cemetery and chapel from climate change.

The local Baie Sainte-Marie society is getting over $112,000 to improve drainage and reduce flooding on the Majors Point Acadian cemetery and chapel in Belliveau Cove.

Minister Timothy Halman says they hold significant historical value to Acadians in Clare. and they want to honour their heritage.

A new wheelchair ramp and larger door are also part of the improvements to the replica chapel.

The Majors Point site commemorates the arrival of a group of Acadians who fleed the expulsion in 1755.

Clare warden Yvon LeBlanc says they’re proud to help support the project and preserve the historical site.
