The mayor of Boston joined Haligonians to remember the fallen Tuesday.

Michelle Wu participated in the city’s Remembrance Day ceremony, laying a wreath at the cenotaph.

“The people of Boston stand with our friends in Halifax and all across Canada,” Wu said in a post to her Facebook page. “We will never forget those who sacrificed everything in defence of freedom and in service to their communities.”

Wu was in town meeting with Halifax Mayor Andy Fillmore, discussing ways the two cities can work together.

Wu said she also wanted to express gratitude for the friendship Halifax and Boston have enjoyed for more than 100 years.

Part of that friendship is the Christmas tree Nova Scotia sends to Boston each year as thanks for the city’s assistance following the Halifax Explosion in 1917.

Wu was to be in Lunenburg County for the public event this year. The spruce is located in Martins Brook.
