Province invests in green jobs in Hampton

By Bryan Tait Nov 10, 2025 | 6:30 AM

The Smart Energy Company, a renewable energy business in Hampton, has expanded thanks to support from Opportunities New Brunswick.

The company develops solar energy systems for small and medium-sized businesses, with a focus on the agricultural sector.

Thanks to the government funding, the company has hired three new employees.

“It enables us to scale up our team, enhance our operations and meet the rising demand for clean, cost-effective energy solutions,” co-CEO Jeff McAloon said in a release from the province. “We’re on a mission to help farmers reduce emissions and save $1 billion in energy costs to ensure a more sustainable future for the plane and for farm businesses.”

McAloon said the company has been expanding across eastern Canada and is ready to start growing its footprint into key agricultural markets in central Canada and the United States.

Opportunities New Brunswick will provide up to $125,000 in the form of a payroll rebate to support the creation of up to 10 full-time jobs. The investment is expected to contribute about $7.33 million in direct provincial GDP by the end of 2026.

“This operational and workforce expansion highlights the incredible innovation happening right here in New Brunswick, including in the clean-tech sector,” Opportunities New Brunswick Minister Luke Randall said in a release. “We are working to support the export potential of businesses in this province while creating exciting career opportunities for New Brunswickers.”
