Moncton building permits issued hit record $395M

Building permits issued in Moncton have already set a new record, with the total value surpassing $395 million in just nine months of 2025.

The City of Moncton stated that the figure is higher than the previous full‑year record of $366 million set in 2022. In the third quarter alone, 337 permits worth $86 million were issued across residential, institutional and commercial sectors.

Deputy Mayor Paulette Thériault said the results show strong confidence from investors, developers and residents.

“While we’re especially encouraged by the ongoing strength in residential development, which is essential for supporting our growing population, construction in every sector plays a key role in creating a more dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable community,” she said in a release.

Residential construction continues to lead the way, accounting for nearly half of the third‑quarter total. From July to September, 126 permits worth $42.6 million were issued, representing 215 new housing units.

Year‑to‑date, residential permits have reached $159.1 million, a 26.5 per cent increase from the same period last year. That growth includes 1,015 new units so far in 2025, 174 more than at this point in 2024.

Notable projects this year include a $12‑million, 63‑unit apartment complex on Warner Street, a $3.3‑million, 24‑unit building on Purdy Avenue, and a $19.5‑million youth treatment centre on Salisbury Road.

Luc Babineau, the city’s director of economic development, said Moncton’s construction sector remains a “key catalyst” for growth.

“By maintaining a balanced and forward‑thinking approach, we continue to create an environment that meets the evolving needs of our residents and strengthens our position as a top destination for business,” he said.
