Another StFX alumni elected as premier of Yukon

Another alumni from Saint Francis Xavier University (StFX) will be the next premier of Yukon.

Currie Dixon, the leader of the The Yukon Party, has been elected.

Dixon graduated from StFX in 2008 and is the third alumni in a row to assume the role of Yukon premier following Sandy Silver and most recently, Ranj Pillai.

Pillai stepped down in May in order to focus more on family, after having served as premier since 2023.

Silver served as premier from 2016-2023 and is now the university says, he is back at StFX as the first Victor Dahdaleh Practitioner-in-Residence, facilitating conservations between students, the public and academics as well as supporting skills development.

The Yukon Party was the official opposition for nine years and is now the majority government.

In a social media post, StFX congratulates Dixon on his new role.
