Nova Scotia Conservative MP for Acadia-Annapolis Chris d’Entremont has crossed the floor to the Liberals.

In a statement Tuesday evening, d’Entremont says he decided to resign after “serious considerations” and “thoughtful conversations” with constituents and family.

The move came upon the delivery of the 2025 Budget.

“I came to a clear conclusion: there is a better path forward for our country- and a better path forward for Acadie-Annapolis,” says d’Entremont.

While speaking to reporters Tuesday, d’Entremont said Pierre Poilievre’s leadership style probably played a factor.

“It’s time to actually try and lead a country, to make it better, and not continue to knock it down and be negative.”

“Prime Minister Mark Carney is offering a path with a new Budget that hits the priorities I have heard most in my riding, to build strong infrastructure and a stronger economy. That is why I am joining the Government Caucus.”

D’Entremont says this is an important moment for the country to come together, and he is looking forward to working with Carney.

Meanwhile, the PM says he’s honoured to welcome d’Entremont to the Liberals.

“Chris’ decision to join the government caucus at this crucial moment for the country is exceptionally valuable and important,” said Carney.

Crossing the floor brings the Liberals just two seats away from a majority government.
