The Saint John Police Force reported that 13 vehicles were towed during a citywide safety inspection campaign earlier this month.

Police said the campaign took place on October 9 in partnership with Justice and Public Safety New Brunswick.

Officers inspected 36 vehicles, issuing 20 violations and three warnings. They also removed three fraudulent inspection stickers.

Police explained that the purpose of the campaign was to promote road safety by identifying hazards and checking compliance with vehicle maintenance rules.

Inspections included checks for registration, lights, signals, tires, brakes and other safety components.

Authorities added that promoting road safety and addressing hazards remains a priority, and that education and deterrence are part of their approach to vehicle safety.
