The Town of Antigonish has awarded a tender for test well drilling

It goes to Brewster Well Drilling for $52,640.00 + HST.

In a release, the town says the project supports ongoing efforts to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply for residents, as outlined in the 2025 Strategic Plan.

According to its Housing Accelerator Fund web page, the town now depends solely on the James River dam. It says the town’s single drinking water source will be adequate in the short term, but they must sometimes ration during hot, dry weather, which “climate change is expected to intensify.”

It says the town needs to find an additional water source or future housing developments will not be feasible.

Town staff and a hydrologist were set to conduct site visits Friday morning to determine optimal drilling locations.

Test well drilling is expected to begin soon and be completed by the end of November
