Queens District RCMP are investigating after human remains were found following a cabin fire outside Kempt.

Emergency crews were called to a remote cabin on Albanynew Road around 6:30 p.m. on October 13 after reports of a structure fire.

After the fire was put out, firefighters found a body inside the building and notified police.

At this stage, investigators say the fire is not believed to be suspicious based on the evidence gathered at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, with RCMP working alongside the Nova Scotia Fire Marshal’s Office and the Medical Examiner Service to determine the cause of the fire and confirm the identity of the deceased.

In a release, police expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones, saying their thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
