Man in hospital, arrest made after uptown Saint John assault

A 38‑year‑old man is in hospital with critical injuries after what police describe as an aggravated assault in uptown Saint John.

The Saint John Police Force said officers were called to Richmond and Exmouth streets around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the man was found with serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police say they arrested a 34‑year‑old man on Wednesday. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court on Thursday morning.

Authorities added that the Major Crime Unit and forensic services are leading the investigation, which they believe to be an isolated incident.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the assault, or who may have photos or video from the area at the time, to contact Saint John police at 506‑648‑3333.
