The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is making $20,000 available for local projects.
They call it the Community Choice Project Fund.
Jen Esposito the economic development officer and says they are looking for any project that might have some kind of benefit to the town.
“The Community Choice Project Fund was created so that residents can get involved in shaping our community,” explains Esposito.
“We want to hear from residents of all ages about what projects they might want to bring forward to make our community better.”
Esposito adds that there are some eligibility requirements.
“We’re looking for small simple projects that are easy to implement. So, they will need to make sure the project has identified costs; that they can implement the project over the course of 2026; that it takes place on municipal property; that it’s something that delivers community benefit, it’s not just for private benefit or consumption; that it doesn’t duplicate an existing service.”
The funding is made available through the Municipal Accommodation Tax.
Here are some of the timelines:
Step 1: Idea Collection (Sept. 29 – Oct. 31, 2025) Residents submit ideas for projects that will benefit the community. Municipal staff will be available by appointment or at two open house sessions to help develop applications and guide feasible proposals.
•
Step 2: Proposal Development (Nov. 2025) Staff review and evaluate submissions for eligibility.
•
Step 3: Community Voting (Nov. 2025) A three-week voting period will allow residents to vote on eligible projects by providing their full name and age.
•
Step 4: Results & Implementation (Dec. 2025 – Jan. 2026) Results will be compiled and reviewed in December. The winning project will be presented to Council in January 2026 for approval and implementation.
