The City of Dryden has a new Facility Use Agreement for the Memorial Arena for the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.
The city says the previous agreement expired years ago and the new agreement is specifically tailored to the hockey club.
Jason Boyer is the city’s Community Services Manager and says it’s been five years since the Ice Dogs have had a formal agreement with the city.
“The Ice Dogs are little bit different…they get access to the building to put their stuff back in when they get back in from road games,” Boyer told Dryden city council this week at its open meeting.
“They have obviously not just the storage space but a dressing room. They are provided with other amenities that some of other user groups don’t get. So, we just wanted to capture all that into the user agreement.”
Boyer adds they will also charge the team a premium for summer ice.
“Beginning in 2026, (there will) be an additional $20 dollar fee for summer ice. So, this is something that I’ve actually put on the Fees and Charges By-Law to bring forward to council for 2026, to help offset the exorbitant cost that there is to put the ice back in early in August.”
Boyer says the energy costs in the summer are about $5,000 a week for electricity, almost twice what it costs during the season which is closer to $2,200 to $2,500 a week.
The new agreement is retroactive to July 1st and will run until the end of June of 2029.
