A Fredericton man is facing multiple charges in connection with an incident in St. George Tuesday night.
The 34-year-old was arrested after RCMP officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a convenience store.
Officers approached the man’s vehicle with emergency lights activated.
According to the RCMP, the man attempted to flee the scene, colliding with a police vehicle in the process.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Main Street, and the driver barricaded himself inside while wielding what police described as an “edged weapon.”
As police attempted to de-escalate the situation, the man lunged his vehicle forward and almost struck one officer. He also swung his weapon at a second officer.
Police used a stun gun and were able to arrest the man.
During an appearance in Saint John provincial court Wednesday, the man was charged with:
- Two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
- Two counts of uttering threats
- Obstructing a peace officer
- Flight from a peace officer
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to be back in court Oct. 8 at 1 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing.
