A new gathering place to honour Sara Corning.
She was a nurse from Yarmouth that dedicated her life to humanitarian service in the 1920s.
The Sara Corning Memorial Park is now open next to the Chegoggin cemetery.
Jennifer White is part of the Sara Corning society, and says their mission is to raise awareness about her story.
“Putting herself at 49 years old in the middle of a war to rescue children, it’s a story of inspiration and a story that’s timeless, and relevant today,” said White.
An information panel and seating are available at the small park.
A grand opening was held on Friday.
“One person can make a significant difference for other people. Her story reminds us to find courage and stand up to people, it can lead to significant results.”
