Property and violent crime were down in Dryden in the second quarter of this year.

Property crime was down 28 percent.

Inspector Matt LeBlanc says work by the Community Street Crimes Unit is paying off.

“You can attribute that to the success of your CSCU team,” LeBlanc told the Dryden OPP Detachment Board at their meeting this week.

“When you are doing a good job on your drugs, your property crimes are going to drop also, because its people looking for quick dollars to trade for drugs.”

Staff Sergeant Mitch Davis says violent crime in Dryden was also down 25 percent in the second quarter.

“Something again I would attribute to our CSCU members.  A lot of violent crime is within the drug culture within the city.”

On the traffic side, there was a 122 percent increase in the number of charges, including a 12.8 percent increase in speeding and a 131.8 percent increase for not wearing a seatbelt.
