Wildfire risk remains in N.B. as some Crown land restrictions lift

By Alex Allan Aug 26, 2025 | 7:13 PM

The province has lifted restrictions on Crown lands as wildfire conditions continue to improve, but officials note that the risk remains, and the burn ban remains in effect.

There were 12 active wildfires reported across New Brunswick as of Tuesday afternoon.

Sevem are being patrolled, three are contained, and two remain out of control.

The two out-of-control fires are located near Beaver Lake Stream, west of Red Bank, and have grown to 338 hectares in size.

The Rocky Brook wildfire, northwest of Bathurst, has grown to approximately 204 hectares.

The evacuation advisory for the Black River Bridge fire, southeast of Miramichi, has now been lifted. Officials say crews continue to monitor the area closely.

While public access to some Crown lands has resumed, some restrictions remain in place for forestry operations.

Harvesting is still limited to evening operations, and fire suppression equipment must be on site.

The province is reminding residents to stay clear of active fire zones and ongoing firefighting operations.

The burn ban remains in effect, prohibiting outdoor fires and smoking in forested areas.

Officials say cooler temperatures and recent rainfall have helped slow fire activity, but the forest remains dry, and the risk is expected to persist into the fall.
