The measles outbreak in the Sussex region may soon be declared over, according to health officials.

There have been no new measles cases reported in Sussex since July 22, and the total number of cases remains at 15 since the outbreak began on July 9.

The Department of Health says outbreaks are typically declared over after 42 days, which represents two full incubation periods, without additional cases.

“We continue to monitor the situation closely,” said Meghan Cumby, spokesperson for the department.

“Communications will be issued when the outbreak is declared over.”

Public Health continues to advise residents and visitors to be aware of measles symptoms and ensure their vaccinations are up to date.

The risk remains low for those who are protected against the virus.
