There’s help for residents in Irishtown and other communities who have been placed on alert and could be forced to evacuate due to forest fires.
Posts are surfacing on social media from New Brunswickers offering assistance.
One from the Boyle Family Farm, who are willing to transport cattle or horses to a safe space.
“I know for a fact that the majority of small hobby farms don’t have a cattle trailer. People who buy livestock generally get it delivered. So I was just thinking last night that there could be some people who need some help, and we have a bunch of trucks and a couple of trailers. So we just thought we would offer it to the public, and if somebody gets in a bad way, we’ll we’ll take time out of our day, and we’ll try to make it better for them,” Owner Mitchell Boyle told our newsroom.
He has already had calls from Saint-Phillippe, from farmers, “There’s quite a few people up that way with horses and cows that haven’t been given the evacuation notice yet, but they are in the warning zone. They reached out to see if we could make arrangements to pick up their horses and help them pen their cattle if needed, which we agreed to participate in if they needed help.”
Boyle adds that it’ll just take him ten minutes to hook onto the trailer and get out on the road in a moment’s notice. “The trucks already have a full tank of gas,” Boyle stated.
He feels that things are just going to get worse and more out of control if we don’t get some rain.
Other organizations, including Llama-zing Adventures, are also offering to lend a helping hand to those in need.
As of Monday morning, there were 11 active fires in New Brunswick, with two burning out of control. The forest fire in Irishton had grown to around 54 hectares since Sunday, and the one in Miramichi was up to 340 hectares. Several residents in that region have already been forced from their homes.
