Big changes could be coming for transporation in Halifax.

A new regional plan looks at the next 20 years, and has identified several projects for preliminary work.

They include a Halifax peninsula core street review, future fixed-harbour crossings and terminals, high-occupancy vehicle lanes and more.

Public Works minister Fred Tilley says it will help the growing population.

“The plan envisions a future where people in communities are healthy, connected, and where our economy is strong. We understand the need to take immediate action today,” said Tilley.

The province also wants to review the Macdonald Bridge and Young Street, and explore future road corridors in Shearwater and Beaver Bank.

They says the plan is the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada, and offers solutions to growth, efficient land use and transportation planning.
