By Caitlin Snow Jul 24, 2025 | 10:53 AM

There are now 30 measles cases confirmed in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia Health says they are in the northern zone, with eight confirmed in the lab, and the others are considered confirmed based on household exposure and symptoms.

An increase in these cases is expected, especially with it being within the 7 to 21-day period when secondary cases usually appear after exposure.

Although public health expects the number of cases to increase in the coming weeks, the risk to the general public is still considered low, due to vaccinations or previous infection.

There are currently no new public exposure sites identified, and it is believed the cases are all travel related within Canada.

None of the current cases are linked to the previous exposure sites the Aberdeen and St. Martha’s emergency departments.

Symptoms include:

  • fever
  • cough, runny nose, red eyes
  • small white spots inside the mouth and throat
  • red blotchy rash on the face, spreading down the body
