Saskatchewan joins support for new energy infrastructure

Saskatchewan is adding its voice to those of Ontario and Alberta in supporting new energy infrastructure.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe attached his name to a Memorandum of Understanding, first signed by Premiers Doug Ford and Danielle Smith earlier this month.

Ford says it shows Canada is ready for nation-building projects.

“We’re not just signing a piece of paper. We’re sending a clear message: Canada is ready to build. And we’re going to get it done as one Team Canada,” says Ford.

“The world needs what Canada has. It’s time to think big. It’s time to bring our critical minerals, our oil, our natural gas and energy to new markets across the globe.”

Ford says Saskatchewan’s support will help move plans to move oil from Alberta to northern Ontario.

A potential line to James Bay is being studied.

Moe says the Memorandum of Understanding also helps unlock economic and trade barriers for other sectors.

“More export options so that these products can find their way to those countries around the world so that we can be part of their food security, part of their energy security,” says Moe.

As part of the agreement, the three provinces will seek changes to federal regulations, including a “One Project, One Process” principle when it comes to federal reviews.
