International Falls City Council will hold a special meeting next week to discuss the deficit impacting its ambulance services.

Concern is being expressed by the town’s auditor, who wrote a letter suggesting the need to take action.

Mayor Drake Dill says there are things that should be looked at.

“The state of the city finances at this point are of deep concern, and that is why I have made the decision to call the council meeting on next Monday night after Committee of the Whole,” says Dill.

The city reported the service has been running annual deficits reaching as much as $300,000 for the past several years.

Councillor Pete Kalar says there is some indication that state aid might be coming, but the amount remains uncertain.

“I think it’s like $8 million this year and $7 million next year, says Kalar.

“But there’s also a lot of ambulance services of all different kinds that are in our predicament.”

The city failed at attempts to establish a taxing district for the service last year.
