You’ll need to seek the shade or a cool place again on Thursday.
Heat warnings remain in effect for areas including Moncton and southeast New Brunswick, Sussex – Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County, St. Stephen and northern Charlotte County and Kent County.
Environment Canada says regions under the heat warning will see temperatures around 30 degrees, but the humidex will make it feel more like 38.
Keep a close eye out for the early signs of heat exhaustion.
And be sure to apply lots of sunscreen if you choose to be outside, and find a cool or shady spot to rest.
Meanwhile, extreme heat and humidity can make it unbearable, especially if you’re living on the streets.
Moncton’s Director of Community Safety Conrad Landry says the city has been proactive, “We’re monitoring the situation. The shelters have been prepared for this. They increase capacity indoors for people to be able to cool down. They have misting tents so people can go and walk through and cool down.”
There’s one misting tent at the shelter on St. George, with the option of one at Victoria Park and at Riverfront Park as well.
Bylaw officers and other volunteers will be handing out bottled water to those in need in the downtown.
Landry adds, if you see someone who appears to be in distress, approach them if you feel it is safe. “If in doubt, call 911, and we will send emergency responders to check on them, to determine if they need further assistance.”
