A New Brunswick park is offering something for its four-legged friends of nature as well.
A dog stick library can be found in Mill Creek Nature Park in Riverview.
Spokesperson Ashly Barron says no library card required, “Typically, the dog will choose the stick that is speaking to them, that they would like to carry on their walks or trails. The owner can certainly help and choose what size would make most sense for their dog. Sometimes little dogs like to try out big sticks. ”
She adds that a lot of two-legged explorers, young children, also enjoy the dog stick library, “They can use it as a walking stick as they explore the park.”
Barron says the library was installed in late May and has been working very well so far. “There are no late fees. It is an honour system where you will take the stick, go on your walk, and bring it back. Or sometimes you might bring it home to play fetch and then bring it back the next time.”
If your dog happens to drop the stick or lose it during its travels through the park, not to worry, Barron explains, you can replace it with another one.
The dog stick library can be found along the first bend off the Robertson Street entrance to the park.
“One of our team members actually saw the idea online and thought it would be a great idea for the Mill Creek Nature Park. They made it happen with the help of the Codiac Woodworkers Guild,” Barron adds.
It will be a year-round library, and sticks will be replenished regularly.
