A baby deer was saved from drowning in Barrington Passage, Friday morning, thanks to some quick thinking from a local resident.

Talent Wilson tells us she heard the fawn while on a morning run with her dogs.

“We kept hearing it crying and we look over and there’s a baby deer, very small, stuck in the marsh,” says Wilson.

She says she started to panic a bit with the tide about to come in.

“I turned around and booked it back up to Sherose Island to one of my neighbour’s house. Luckily, they were home,” adds Wilson.

She and her neighbour were unsure of what to do to save the deer, until they saw a municipality worker in Sherose Island.

“So, I waved him down and I was like, ‘There’s a deer. What do we do? Can you do anything?'”, says Wilson.

According to the Municipality of Barrington, the workers name is Darren, a member of their Public Works team who happened to have a kayak with him.

He paddled out and rescued the fawn, bringing it safely back to dry land.

Wilson says she’s seen deer in that area, some swimming across, but never any that small, travelling alone.

“The municipality worker, he did an amazing job. Very thankful to him.”
