There are renewed efforts to get a dog park established in Fort Frances.
A letter from two Fort Frances residents asks town council to consider forming a committee to explore the idea of developing a dog park.
McKenna Coran and Natalie Hilson say some dog owners are using the ball diamonds at St. Francis Fields, which has created animosity between owners and sports teams.
“These incidents underscore the importance of a dedicated dog park, both to protect dedicated shared recreational spaces and to give pet owners a responsible alternative,” write Coran and Hilson.
The issue has been raised many times before.
A committee in 2012 identified potential sites, but the town opted not to move forward on the recommendations because of financial pressures facing the town at the time.
The committee narrowed its search to four properties and identified development costs at around $30,000.
The issue was revisited in 2015 but later shelved when an advisory committee was unable to get people to participate.
The letter comes before town council at its meeting on Monday night.
