A section of Cumberland Street is set for an extended closure for construction and major infrastructure work.

The work got underway on Tuesday, fully closing the roadway between McVicar Street and Howe Street.

During construction, a new roundabout is being established at the Cumberland and Water Street intersection, new sewer and water infrastructure is being installed, and the road and sidewalks in the area are being reconstructed.

The closure is expected to remain in effect until the fall.

As the work progresses, the closure will extend south to Villa Street and eventually to Tupper Street.

Residents are advised to use alternate routes and follow all posted signage.
