Drivers/company charged for logging truck defects

A public complaint led Provincial Police to lay charges for defects found on a pulp truck.

OPP say they were told that a fully loaded vehicle appeared to be losing a wheel and throwing sparks across Highway 11 near Atikokan.

When OPP located the vehicle, an inspection found two damaged trailer tires and an air brake chamber with a disconnected air line.

Police say the driver was aware of the problem because a pair of vice-grips was attached to the line.

Police had the trailer disconnected and taken out of service until repairs could be made.

The driver, a 76-year-old man from Fort Frances, was charged with having improper brakes on a commercial motor vehicle and driving with a major defect.

A trucking business in Emo was also charged.
