RCMP have arrested a man in Lower Northfield following a shelter-in-place alert issued Wednesday afternoon.

Officers had been searching in the area near Northfield Road as part of a wanted person investigation.

Investigators located the 44-year-old man trying to flee into a wooded area and immediately contained the area.

An emergency alert was issued shortly before 1 p.m. as police believed he may have been armed.

“Officers at the scene had located and seized a machete believed to have been in his possession,” RCMP said in a news release.

Shortly before 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers located the man hiding in a shed and arrested him.

Police said they have received multiple reports of break-ins over the past week that coincided with the accused’s whereabouts.

Investigators are looking to hear from anyone who may ave video surveillance footage or has been the victim of a break-in that has not been reported.
