An Awareness campaign launched this week by Canada’s Premiers is drawing attention to a need for more federal dollars for healthcare.

It calls for a new funding partnership through the Canada Health Transfer.

Chair of the Council of the Federation and Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson says health care cannot be maintained long-term while funding continues to decline.

The Premiers have called on the federal government to increase the CHT so its share of provincial and territorial health care costs rises from 22 percent to 35 percent and to maintain this level over time.

Stefanson adds, “The long-term sustainability of our health care systems cannot be maintained while the federal government’s share of health care funding continues to decline. To ensure the tests, procedures and other health care services Canadians across the country need – when they need them – they should not have to wait any longer for federal action.”

The Federation is made up of all 13 provincial and Territorial Premiers.

Ads are featured online, in print, on the radio and on billboards.

There’s no word on the cost of the campaign.
