Hard work has paid off for several community-engaged high school students from New Brunswick.

A total of 36 Canadian students have been selected to receive the Loran Award for 2025, officials announced Wednesday.

Four New Brunswick students are included on this year’s list:

  • Sarah Watson, Rothesay High School
  • Carly Akoto, James M. Hill Memorial High School in Miramichi
  • Irina Iankova, École Sainte-Anne in Fredericton
  • Marilou Frenette, École Marie-Gaétane in Kedgwick

Valued at more than $100,000, the award recognizes students who have shown strength of character, a commitment to service and exceptional leadership potential.

Loran Scholars receive a four-year leadership-enrichment program, experiential learning opportunities, financial support throughout their undergraduate studies, and a network of peers and mentors.

More than 6,000 students applied, and the 36 Loran Award recipients were selected from a list of 90 finalists.
