The Halifax Common is free of tents from those experiencing homelessness as of Thursday morning.
In a media release, the city says they had been taking steps over the last several months to remove the tents from the site, which is not a designated location.
Notices to leave to the property were issued to about eight people, March 3, allowing them until March 16 to relocate.
As of 9 a.m., Thursday, four tents remained but staff confirmed they were empty and are now in the process of cleaning the site.
HRM says there are several available spots in indoor shelters, temporary housing, as well as outdoor designated locations on the Halifax peninsula with about 30 tents and five trailers.
“Including Cogswell Park and the Barrington Street green space and in Dartmouth at the Geary Street green space.”
The city says they will continue to offer support and resources to those staying at those sites.
“The municipality’s number one priority has been, and continues to be, treating those experiencing homelessness with dignity and continuing to find ways to provide support within our organization’s capacity and scope.”
Halifax Common is now a prohibited location for sheltering.
