Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke by phone Wednesday night, discussing tariffs and trade disputes.

CTV News reports according to a senior government source, the U.S. proposed removing some tariffs, but only if Canada dropped its retaliatory measures.

Trudeau pushed back, saying Canada would only lift its countermeasures if all U.S. tariffs were eliminated.

The conversation became heated at times, with Trump also raising concerns about Canada’s Digital Services Tax and protections for farmers.

Beyond the leaders’ discussion, Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick also held several calls Wednesday. However, no further discussions are currently scheduled.
