Man dead after early morning shooting in Halifax

By Caitlin Snow Feb 20, 2025 | 12:48 PM

One man is dead after a shooting in the Fairview area of Halifax.

Police say it happened around 6:20 a.m., Thursday, on McFatridge Road.

When crews arrived on scene the man was unconscious on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is being treated as a homicide as the investigation continues but police do not believe it was random.

Police say they will not identify the victim until an autopsy is complete.

Meanwhile, the emergency department at the QEII’s Halifax Infirmary was put under lockdown, Thursday morning.

A spokesperson for Nova Scotia Health tells our newsroom it was for “safety of staff and patients” but would not provide further detail.

The lockdown was lifted around 8:15 a.m., and at this time it does remain unclear whether the two incidents were related.
