After this week’s storm, and more snow expected on Sunday, some New Brunswickers may be beginning to put faith in Shubenacadie Sam’s predictions on Groundhog Day.  He saw his shadow, which meant six more weeks of winter.

“December and January were actually near seasonal for the southern areas. For the northern areas, it was actually still above average. However, we’ve been extremely dry, both December and January, lacking in precipitation, in the forms of snow and rain,” Environment Canada Meteorologist Jill Maepea told our newsroom.

She adds that we did see some colder outbreaks, and we did see some snow, but it was less than in the past.

With the arrival of February though, Maepea says that is changing.

“Our first 10 days of February, have been two to three degrees below normal across the province. So we have seen some colder temperatures in February, as compared to December and January.”

She adds it is really starting to feel like winter in February.
