A $25 million investment from the federal government to the Port of Halifax to help improve the supply chain and environmental sustainability.

Transport Minister Anita Anand made the announcement in Halifax, Wednesday morning.

Twenty-two million is to help speed up the development of the Halifax-Hamburg green shipping corridor by building a hydrogen production facility, preparing to host vessels that are not fuel powered and reduce emissions with electric equipment.

In addition, switching to an electric train locomotive to switch freight traffic from road to rail.

Another $2.5 million is for the Ship to Shore Crane Infrastructure project to help with congestion, capacity and speeding things up when servicing larger vessels.

Anand says, “Our ports are essential to global trade and to Canada’s economy. By investing in green shipping corridors, supply chain infrastructure, and clean technologies, we’re taking decisive action to reduce emissions. Together, we’re building a sustainable future for transportation, while supporting jobs and driving economic growth in Nova Scotia and beyond.”
