Case of man charged in largest N.S. wildfire back in court

By Kevin Northup Jan 28, 2025 | 3:20 PM

The man charged in the largest wildfire in Nova Scotia’s history is returning to court.

The lawyer for 23-year-old Dalton Clark Stewart entered a guilty plea in Shelburne Provincial Court in November to leaving a fire unattended when it’s not completely extinguished.

Wednesday’s appearance will be to set a sentencing date.

The 2023 Barrington Lake wildfire destroyed dozens of homes and structures.

Stewart entered not-guilty pleas to two other charges under the Forests Act, including lighting a fire on privately owned land without permission.
