An Olympic Boxer from Nova Scotia who made the podium in Paris over the summer, is turning pro.

Dubbed “The Kennetcook Kid”, Wyatt Sanford is taking the leap to the big leagues under Quebec-based promotional company, Eye of the Tiger (EEOTM).

The organization says in a release on their website, they are “proud” to sign Sanford, who was the first Canadian Boxer to medal at the Olympics in 28 years.

President Camille Estephan acknowledges that the 26-year-old Olympic bronze medalist brings “depth” to their roster, “reinforcing our commitment to competing with the world’s top promoters on the international stage.”

“Even though Wyatt Sanford is a local athlete, it’s important to recognize that with his international results and spectacular style, he could have signed with any promoter.”

Meanwhile, Sanford says he chose EEOTM because they will have his best interest at heart.

“That’s not something you find everywhere in boxing, so for me, it was essential. I’m even happier because this allows me to stay home and fight in front of my own people.”

According to the release, Sanford accomplished everything he could in the amateur ranks in addition to making the podium in Paris, such as competing at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, nabbing bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022, silver at the Continental Championships in 2023 and gold at the Pan American Games in Santiago in 2023.

He has also won four Canadian junior championships.

His debut date will be announced in the coming weeks.
