Infrastructure upgrades in Guysborough County, is going to make moving wind turbines easier, through the Strait of Canso.

The province is spending $750,000 on a 44-meter steel bridge at the northern end of the Superport’s Mulgrave Marine Terminal.

Minister of Agriculture Greg Morrow says the Strait of Canso is a strategic area for wind development in the province and the Superport plays a key role in that.

He says the upgrades will help turbines to be moved to potential project sites more efficiently.

The new bridge will also provide direct access to Route 374.

Chair of the Board of Directors with the Strait of Canso Superport Corporation, Joe Brennan says, the upgrades will not only contribute to the economy but create much needed jobs.

The money is coming through the Community Economic Development Fund which has also supplied $2 million to the Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre Society and $350,000 for the Pan Cape Breton Food Hub Co-operative.

The province is trying to have 80 per cent renewable energy by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.
